Centre for Health Promotion Studies

Since 1996, the Centre for Health Promotion Studies has conducted interdisciplinary research, offered graduate-level education, and engaged with communities in strategies and programs to promote health. The Centre’s interdisciplinary graduate programs are designed to encourage research and to prepare leaders for organizations that plan and deliver population health promotion programs.

Mission

The Centre for Health Promotion Studies in the School of Public Health is committed to interdisciplinary research, graduate education, and community engagement in health promotion to advance knowledge, theory, practice, and policy in the social and behavioural determinants of health through community and academic partnerships.

Creating pathways to health through innovation, leadership, and partnerships.

Mandates

The Centre has a vital role in:

  • Providing and promoting interdisciplinary graduate education that prepares graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully engage in health promotion activities;
  • Conducting and fostering interdisciplinary health promotion research in collaboration with other Alberta and national stakeholders; and
  • Participating in communication, networking, and community outreach activities that foster health promotion practice and policy development.
